it took me ten years

but I finally figured out why I was working with discrete Fourier transforms when I was 12. Deriving trigonometric identities was a practical application (although you can add question marks to this premise) of complex numbers. Now I can spend another 10 years wondering why I was trying to be practical 20 years ago. It’s slow, this mathematical adolescence, for me.
