Week 12: make a device talk to another device
This week I fabbed the Hello Radio boards designed by Charlie DeTar. I didn’t change any of the design, so this week I will mainly explain some of the troubles I had while fabbing the board. The only troubles I had were due to imprecise soldering.
The trick with using too much solder to start out with and sucking up the excess with soldering braid works very well for these very small chips. I would recommend it.
Initially I soldered the crystal on wrong, because there was a small mistake in the schematic. Crystals are rotationally symmetrical, so to be able to get them on correctly you must actually shift the part.
The messager.asm file includes the other .asm files in the folder, so by compiling that one you compile all of the files at once. Then load the messager.hex onto the board.
